Having spent a couple of days at the Wood Heat Association Conference in Bristol recently, I thought I would share a few interesting snippets about the RHI scheme.
- So far, the RHI scheme participants have received around £250m in subsidy.
- 84% of boilers are installed where there isn’t a gas supply.
- There is 2GW of installed capacity - this is enough heat for 30,000 medium sized office buildings.
- 50% of consumers have had problems with at least one fuel delivery.
- Ofgem have a team of 10 dedicated people who investigate suspected fraud within the scheme - so far they have reportedly scrutinised payments worth £20m for instances such as:
- Non-existent boilers
- Applications before commissioning
- Second-hand equipment
- Differences between application and audit
- Incorrect fuel
-
Fraud is reported to Action Fraud or the police and convictions have been obtained.
