Your views needed on phasing out rural fossil fuel heating

The consultation is underway, and closes on Wednesday 12 January.

As one of the first steps in the implementation of its Heat and Buildings Strategy, the government is consulting on phasing out the installation of fossil fuel heating systems in businesses and public buildings (as well as homes) off the gas network from the mid-2020s onwards.

It is proposed that all ‘off-gas’ buildings (mostly in rural areas) should progressively replace predominantly oil-fired heating systems with (preferably) electric heat pumps – a policy that will be rolled out to urban areas on gas-fired central heating at a later date.
